A good mousepad is an important tool for any computer user. It provides a surface that is smooth and comfortable for your mouse to glide on, and it also protects your desktop from scratches. There are many different types of mousepads available on the market, so it can be difficult to decide which one is best for you. In this blog post, we will discuss our top picks for the best RGB mousepads on the market. We will also provide information on what to look for when purchasing a mousepad and some tips on how to care for it.

Buying Guide For The Best RGB Mousepad
1. The Base
The base is what separates a good product from the garbage. There have been many cases where people explain their new RGB mousepad with minor usage marks won’t turn on anymore because the microcontroller has fried itself. This usually occurs because the adhesive used to stick down the top fabric was stronger than it needed to be, and it has crushed the internal components of the mousepad.
If you look at any high-quality RGB mousepad, you will notice that they use either no adhesive to stick down the fabric, or if they do use adhesive, its not very strong. The Razer Goliathus is one of my favorite mousepads for this reason; there are no issues with the base because Razer made it with a super-thin layer (less than 1mm) of silicone on top of an extremely rigid polycarbonate plastic which keeps the top fabric flat against the surface. A good way to test this out before purchasing is checking how easily you can bend up edges without too much force applied. If it’s easy to bend up your edges then most likely your adhesive is too strong and you’re going to have a bad time.
2. Glue Quality
This isn’t as big of an issue as the adhesive used for the base, but if you plan on using your mousepad for extended periods of time this could be something to consider. The worst thing that can happen with glue is it starts to ooze or leave trails of itself all over your mousepad, which not only looks terrible but also leaves residue behind after its wiped away and will damage the top fabric over time. I’ve had my Goliathus since late 2014 and there’s still no sign of any issues regarding the glue both on the base or even between each of the microdots despite heavy usage throughout all these years. You will also see some companies use stickers to cover up the outer edge of their mousepads, which is a sign of low-quality glue.
3. The Top Fabric
Obviously, you want your top fabric to be extremely smooth so that your mouse glides effortlessly across it. But what about the threads themselves? If you look closely at most RGB mousepads currently available, you will notice they all use a flat/matte type material for their top fabrics because it’s much cheaper than using a glossy or “shiny” thread pattern. Unfortunately, when manufacturers try to cut corners by using these cheaper materials, this results in having lower friction when moving your mouse around resulting in worse tracking performance over time (this is why you need to constantly re-calibrate your mouse when using a glossy surface). If you use a fabric pad with a high thread count, it doesn’t really hold onto dirt/debris due to the smoothness of the fabric so you never have to worry about cleaning.
4. The LED Configuration
I’ve seen a lot of people buy into RGB hype that companies try to push in order to sell more products. Have you ever wondered why mousepads don’t come in giant 1000x1000mm sizes? For example, Razer’s Firefly has an extremely small surface area which is only meant for low sensitivity players who need control over their movements at all times (if they can afford it). In comparison, Corsair’s MM300 has almost double the surface area but costs much less, which means even with the same mouse you will have much higher tracking performance.
RGB backlights are extremely bright, so if you are someone who does not move their wrist around very often when playing games then your pad isn’t going to need that many LEDs. Just imagine having a sun shining right into your eyes – now imagine that same amount of brightness pointing at the center of your screen! I’ve seen issues where people have over 50 LED channels turned on just by looking at their RGB mousepad with their peripheral vision. That’s overkill and results in terrible battery life for wireless mice since every channel has an individual microcontroller inside each corner. For example, my Razer Goliathus has 4x RGB LED channels enabled at all times with no issues whatsoever, even on a daily basis.
5. Mousepad Size & Shape
So you’re planning to buy an RGB mousepad? Congratulations! You’ve committed yourself to purchase an expensive device that has almost no benefit over non-RGB versions other than having lights that are marginally better than your current illumination options. But wait what size should I get? Too big of a pad won’t make you any more accurate with your movements, but it’s usually better for low-sen players to have the extra room so they don’t run out of space quickly when chasing targets or trying to dodge enemy fire.
3 Benefits Of RGB Mousepad
1. Improve Accuracy
Color accuracy allows for better control over games and other applications because it can pinpoint what items are being clicked on, allowing fewer mistakes in actions taken during gameplay.
2. Personalize Your Desk Area
Having the ability to set up your desk area with personal preferences is more exciting than just having a flat mouse pad. With the RGB Mousepad, you can have a lamp with your favorite color illuminating your desk, or set up a soft lighting system.
3. Create Mood Lighting for Movies and Video Games
Video games and movies are enhanced when they have a nice setup for lighting. Nothing is more exciting than being immersed into the story of your favorite video game by having dynamic colors lighting up around you. This product provides that to you in an easy way, just use the controller that it came with! The only other requirement is having compatible software installed on your computer.
