5 Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Portable Monitor

1. What is Will You Be Using It For?

You’ll need to determine the primary purpose of your monitor. Do you mainly want to use it for work, travel, watching movies in a hotel room, or something else entirely? This will affect what you should look for in the best portable monitor – whether screen size, portability, connectivity options, or other factors. If your primary motivation is mobility (which it often is), then weight and battery life are important considerations. A single USB connection may be enough if you just want to use it with your laptop to free up some space on your tiny screen. But if you’ll also be using it as an occasional TV replacement while relaxing on the couch at home, consider one that can connect via HDMI, so you don’t need to mess with extra cables.

2. How Big Do You Want Your Portable Monitor To Be?

This is an important question, especially if you’re using your monitor primarily for work and will be carrying it around daily (e.g., in an urban environment). There are numerous screen sizes available but note that some may not all fit in your bag or purse – even when folded up due to the size of the hinge mechanism they use to rotate their screens into position. Most people tend to gravitate towards small-sized screens. Hence, we included examples of these below, and more extensive examples can often be found by searching online at retailers such as Amazon. As noted above, we divided our recommendations into three main groups: small portable monitors under $200, larger-sized monitors in the $200 to $1000 range, and then TVs/gaming panels above that price. Note that some of these screens have smaller built-in speakers than others, so if you want loud sound or better audio quality, you’ll need to get a separate speaker set (or look at one of the TVs on our list).

3. What’s Your Budget?

Since there are many different portable monitors with varying features available these days, it’s essential to consider how much you’re willing to spend. To make this easier for you, we divided our list into three sections based on budget level: 1) monitors up to $200; 2) full-sized portable monitors up to $1000, and 3) TVs/gaming panels. You should also note that many of these models don’t come with an HDMI cable, so make sure you purchase one separately (see below for more details). As previously mentioned, prices can vary over time, but we did our best to find the most accurate price when writing this article. Note that product prices and availability are subject to change. While we do our best to ensure all products listed here are current, please let us know if you spot any errors.

4. What Is Your Primary Connection Method?

If you’re only going to use your monitor with a laptop, then a single USB connection is enough because your laptop power it (just make sure you bought the correct type of USB cable – see below). But if your laptop doesn’t have a potent graphics card, then additional power may be required, in which case it’s worth looking for screens that support “Active” vs. “Passive” HDMI connections. This is because some laptops (and other devices) require more robust graphics processing than others, and this can often be achieved by connecting an additional power source to your screen via the HDMI port(s). You’ll also need to check whether your device supports Digital Audio out via its HDMI connector so you can use speakers with built-in DACs (e.g., the Harman Kardon Soundsticks III ).

5. What Are The Cable/Synchronization Requirements?

Finally, we wanted to mention that some portable monitors come with built-in cables and others require you to provide your own. For example, the AOC E1659Fwu V3 is a small 16″ monitor that comes with an HDMI cable which you then connect directly into one of your laptop’s USB ports for power (no additional power supply required). However, the larger LG 38UC99 requires its dedicated power supply and an extra USB connection because it uses a “Passive” HDMI port. Many TVs on our list also require their separate HDMI or Display Port cables, so make sure you have these ready before purchasing. Note: If you’re going to use one of these monitors for your gaming system, you’ll also need to purchase a separate HDMI cable with Ethernet (to ensure the fastest speeds possible) and an audio cable. Note: Some screens (including TVs/gaming panels above $200) use Display Port instead of HDMI. These cables look different, but they both deliver similar video quality, so don’t worry too much about this – just make sure you check beforehand!

3 Advantages Of Best Portable Monitor

1. Affordable

There are plenty of cheap portable monitors that will provide excellent value for money. These units typically range from $60-$150 depending upon their quality and offer features like wireless, extended battery life, remote controls, etc. You might not get all the features that others offer, but it would work as a backup screen during presentations or when you want to show off something on your tablet without having to turn on another device.
Many times many consider alternatives, like portable TVs or projectors, but the use of these devices is not always needed and can be expensive.

2. Lightweight

The best portable monitor should weigh less than ten pounds even while loaded with features like extended battery life and wireless capabilities. This provides convenience because there are no wires involved in using the device. Some experienced users might want to look for alternatives that also supply power through an alternative method besides cables; this is where some models provide a hydrogen fuel cell backup that will allow you to go completely mobile without worrying about running out of charge.

3. High Resolution:

The resolution of the unit depends upon your need. It can be anything from 1920 x 1080 to a maximum of 3840×2160. If you are looking for a 3 in 1 portable monitor, then 1920 x 1080 resolution will be excellent because it will provide you with all three supported display types.
