5 Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Phoenix 2 Cases
1. Do you want to be able to create new entities at runtime?
Phoenix 2 is built on top of the entity system that provides functionality for creating and manipulating game objects without having to explicitly define them beforehand. This allows for creating entities through scripts or in-game by accessing the ‘CreateEntity’ function of any active context.
However, if you’re looking to have more fine-grained control over what types of entities are created at run time, the entity system might not fit your needs. For example, if you had an enemy wave spawning script that spawns new enemies when health gets low, each new type of enemy spawned would get treated as a generic “enemy” entity.
If you need this level of customization where different spawners can be created and used to create new enemy types without having access to the context, we recommend looking at something like GameplayKit (GK for short).
2. Do you plan on getting rid of the scene graph?
As an engine built around a node-based scene graph, it’s expected that Phoenix 2 will use one internally as well! The good news is that, unlike many other engines, we actually do provide a way to disable or replace it with your own custom implementation. If this sounds appealing to you, go ahead and check out the section on Scene Management.
3. How script-heavy are you planning on making your game?
Scripting support has always been an integral part of what makes Phoenix tick. Even P2 itself is written in a custom scripting language! With this in mind, we provide support for actions and their integration with other systems such as the scene graph through our scripting API to make it easy for you to design your game with scripts at its core.
However if it isn’t something you plan on using or you want more control over how much power scripting has over your game’s functionality, we recommend taking a look at GameplayKit. It provides many of the same types of APIs that we used when we decided to implement our own and might be able to better fit your needs than what we can offer.
4. Do you need any sort of physics system?
One will depend entirely on the type of game you’re planning on making. If you’re not into that sort of thing then we provide a few example scene graphs that can be used as a reference for implementing your own entirely custom version – such as the 2D Tile Map Scene Graph.
However, if you do decide to go with a physics engine, we provide integration support for Apple’s built-in one through our plugin system! You can find documentation about adding support here.
5. Do you need any network support?
We currently use FMNet and GSNet (two open-source networking solutions) for providing high-performance asynchronous multiplayer support. I’d recommend looking into what solutions each provides to see what might work best for your project!
3 Advantages Of Phoenix 2 Cases
1. They keep your device safe
If you’re like me and you’ve dropped your phone more than a few times, you know how important it is to protect your device. The screen on my old iPhone broke just from it slipping out of my hand onto the counter one time! Luckily, I had a sturdy case that kept the rest of the device intact and I could easily take care of the broken screen at an affordable price. Not only does having a case help prevent damage in most drop scenarios; but they also provide grip so that it’s harder for unsuspecting fingers to slip up while typing or holding. And finally, if your case happens to have a magnetic stripe, it can serve as a quick-and-handy place to store some emergency cash.
2. They look good
There are so many iPhone cases out there that you’re sure to find one that appeals to your tastes. Some are flashy, while others have subtle designs. Some are even transparent so you can show off your phone’s original design! But if looking at the same old case day in and day out is getting boring, why not switch it up? With so many options on the market, you’ll never get tired of changing things up with new styles and looks for all seasons and occasions. And if none of these sounds like something you’d wear, pick up a few different ones anyways – it could be fun to swap them out every once in a while!
3. They come in a variety of prices
price tag and others aren’t. If you’re going for a more expensive option, make sure it’s something that you’ll actually use. There’s really no point in dropping upwards of $50 on an iPhone case if you know you’ll lose it or never put it on your phone at all. But as long as you shop around and find one within your budget, you’ll likely end up saving money in the long run by protecting your device from damage and keeping yourself from buying new ones constantly just because look different. And with so many options out there, you never have to spend a lot to get the look and functionality you want.
The Bottom Line
Phoenix 2 Cases are high-quality cases that keep your device safe, look great, and come in a variety of price ranges. With so many options available, the possibilities are endless!
