5 Things You Must Know While Choosing The Best FPS Gaming Mouse
I’ve owned a few gaming mice in my lifetime, as I have come to learn that faster is better, especially with FPS games. However this isn’t exactly correct to the fullest extent, you see your mouse’s DPI (Dots Per Inch) determines how far your cursor will move on screen for one horizontal inch at a specific sensitivity. So a high DPI may mean you’ll turn fast to avoid getting shot from behind, but it can also make it harder to aim precisely because your crosshair moves too much before reaching the target area. This leads to another problem of frequent sensitivity switching, which is inconvenient and very tedious if you need to do so often during gameplay. Don’t forget though not all low DPI mice are bad, some can also track well on certain surfaces, etc.
2. Sensor Type
There are 4 types of mouse sensors: Optical, Laser, Infrared, and BlueTrack. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages over the other one plus they usually come with a higher or lower price tag accordingly.
Optical sensor mice usually have an average DPI because their LED lights distort the image creating interference which results in inaccuracy (technical term). So your movement is more precise than with laser but not as much as infrared or blue tracking. However optical sensors do not track well on glossy or clear surfaces so if you use it mostly on glass I would recommend buying another type. Also, its accuracy decreases time so considering this factor too.
Laser sensors are considered the best type of sensor currently because it is not affected by surfaces and their accuracy doesn’t decrease over time like the optical ones. So you can use them on any surface with no hassle or problems sometimes even without additional mousepads (depends on the model). Even if there is something between your laser mouse and the surface most of the time you will still see it work perfectly, don’t know about you but isn’t that great?
Infrared sensors are practically the same as laser mice with only one difference which is their response time (time taken to send coordinates to display screen), this makes it good for high-end gamers who need faster response times during online games.
BlueTrack technology came out recently and it is an improvement over the other sensors because it tracks well on literally any surface. But other than this there isn’t anything else special about it, so don’t expect it works better than other types because of its magical blue lights or something like that.
3. Extra buttons and Scroll wheel
One little detail many people forget to take into consideration when buying their first gaming mouse is how many buttons does it have, if you’re entering the FPS world for the first time then I’d recommend getting a simple one-button mouse (you can find cheap ones for as low as $10). If you want more features like custom DPI settings, macros, etc. make sure your model has them otherwise you’ll end up paying more money for something you won’t use.
When it comes to the wheel there’s nothing special about it, either you like it or not that’s your choice but I can tell you this: if it has an additional wheel beside the scrolling one then consider getting a mouse with configurable DPI settings because having two wheels gives you a lot of possibilities when it comes to customizing your in-game sensitivity which is a big plus for any FPS gamer.
4. Fingertip grip vs Claw Grip
If you’re going to use a gaming mouse only for playing games then don’t bother buying one with extra features and just get a simple fingertip grip mouse. On the other hand, if you want more control over your pointer whatsoever times or places then get a mouse designed for claw grip, these usually have a special shape and their main difference is where you rest your hand when using them. With this type of mouse, the lower part of the mouse (where fingers naturally go) goes towards the user while fingertip grip one’s point in an opposite direction which makes it harder to control.
For professional FPS gamers buying an accurate laser gaming mouse with high DPI and at least 6 programmable buttons can cost them around $100+ but if you’re just starting out in the world of FPS games then don’t spend more than $30 on a decent gaming mouse. There are many good models available for low prices so there’s no need to break the bank right away trying to buy something fancy.
Why Do You Need FPS Gaming Mouse
1. Objective Accuracy
First Person Shooter games are some of the most popular video games around, with a multiplayer mode being very popular. These games rely upon fast reaction times and good accuracy to be able to complete missions, shoot other players or compete in shooting competitions for prizes. Indeed, there are many YouTube videos showing people winning high-tech guns through their prowess at playing these types of games. But without a high-quality gaming mouse accurate shots could not be made. A high-quality FPS mouse has many different buttons that can all have different functions assigned to them. The extra buttons mean that you can have more macros built into one button press than is possible with a standard keyboard setup. This speeds up gameplay because instead of having to find certain letters on your keyboard you can just assign them to one of the FPS mouse buttons.
2. Long Life Span
Some gamers play for hours on end, every day of the week without fail, which means that their gaming equipment needs to be able to stand up to this kind of punishment day in and out. Every minute detail of how a game plays will be taken advantage of by professional players who are not only trying to win – they are also trying to make it look good for people watching online! This means that sometimes pros will take shortcuts using techniques or equipment that an amateur wouldn’t even consider, but still get away with thanks to their skill level. A low-quality FPS mouse would never stand up to this punishment for this long, due mainly because it would be uncomfortable and also because it would not be as reliable as a high-quality mouse.
3. Free to Participate
Unlike some sports, eSports do not require expensive equipment or an extensive training regime before you can compete at the more amateur level. If you have the money to pay for internet access then you already have all of the hardware that you need to get started – just download your favorite FPS game and go!
