5 Things To Consider Before Buying The Best EMTA Modem

1. Does the device have an Alarm Clock?

EMTA modems are used with multiple devices, so it is essential that they can provide more than just Internet access. For example, some modems like the Motorola ‘Surfboard’ series of modems not only allow you to connect your Internet-ready TV, game console, or home theater PC (HTPC) with many others in addition.

A handy feature that you can schedule when your modem will turn on and off and when and rent the computer will be turned on and off using an alarm clock. This means you can program all these items for when you awake in the morning, go to sleep at night, or even wake. This is very useful, especially if you want your game console or TV turned off before it is turned on through your computer’s power button.

2. Does the device have a ‘Channel Bonding’ option?

The Internet now comes in different flavors, which come with their speeds and restrictions, including DSL (which has only one channel bonding option), Cable (which has many channel options depending on how much money you pay for it each month), Satellite (which requires an unobstructed view of the sky for best results but often does not provide enough speed for streaming HD video like Netflix unless you subscribe to the higher end packages) and Fiber (which also provides plenty of speed but is usually limited by how much distance there is between you and the Fiber Hub).

Channel Bonding occurs when a group of channels is bonded together to provide a more stable Internet connection. For example, if your ISP provides Cable Internet that uses 4 different channels, it would be beneficial to use the Channel Bonding feature on your new modem to bond these channels together, allowing you to use all 4 channels provided by your ISP. This provides a faster, more reliable connection, especially during peak hours which often slows down an Internet connection from time to time.

3. Does the device have a ‘Wired’ or ‘Wireless’ ethernet port?

Although this might not seem like an essential factor at first, we must consider what we plan on using this modem for. For example, if you are only looking to provide Internet access to a single PC located in the same room as your modem, all you need is a Wireless or Wired ethernet port, depending on which one best suits your needs.

However, plan to use multiple devices in different rooms throughout your house. It might, artificial to have either ‘Wired’ or ‘Wireless’ ports depending on what type of connection each computer or console needs. A Wired Ethernet port provides the most stable connection and provides maximum speeds but requires an open network cable jack in every room where you want Internet access. In contrast, a Wireless ethernet port provides much more flexibility but can often reduce overall speed and sometimes provide a less stable connection.

4. Does the device have a ‘WPS’ or ‘Push Button’ Connector?

Most people know the Wireless standard known as WiFi, which connects your various devices to your home network wirelessly. While many new routers, switches, and hubs come with built-in wireless, common practice to utilize Wired ethernet cables when possible (especially considering they provide maximum speed). However, suppose you wish to connect two separate wired devices that are located in different rooms. In that case, you can use either ‘Wired’ or ‘Wireless’ ports on the modem, but wouldn’t it be easier if both of these separate wired devices were shared one internet connection without having to run several wires throughout your house? This is where the ‘WPS’ or ‘Push Button’ option comes into play.

By holding down a button on both devices, you simply set each device into WPS mode, which can then connect them over your home network. This option makes it very easy to have Internet access in separate rooms without running an Ethernet cable between these two points. However, make sure your router also has this feature before purchasing your modem because if the router doesn’t, then there is little point in getting something that does!

5. Does the device have a ‘Failover’ or ‘Failback’ Mode?

This is one of the most important features when buying a new EMTA modem with Comcast XFINITY service.

The ‘Failover’ or ‘Failback’ mode allows you to have a secondary Internet connection for those occasions when your primary source of Internet access goes down and then back up again (usually during Comcast Maintenance). For example, if you had Cable Internet and it went down, which was the only way you could get online because you do not use Public IP Addresses (which can also be used as an alternate ISP, but we won’t go into that today). Your primary method of getting back online would be through Comcast XFINITY service.

Benefits of EMTA Modem

1. Home Security

2. Cheaper internet packages (Digital Subscriber Line or DSL service that uses CenturyLink’s network; you can find out if they offer DSL in your area here .)

3. More consistent speed when streaming video (Netflix, YouTube, etc.)
